The 3D prints that actually save money are not the impressive ones. They are the small plastic parts stores mark up hardest: a replacement knob, a bracket for a discontinued blind, dividers cut to your drawer. Our pricing is weight-based and all-in: filament and normal machine time in one number, $0.12 per gram for PLA. 1. Replacement knobs and handles
A washer, dryer or dresser knob is $18 to $35 as a branded replacement, more once the model is discontinued. It weighs twelve grams. Measure the D-shaft with calipers, print one for $1.44, check the fit, then print the rest.
2. Cable clips and cord keepers
A six-clip adhesive pack runs $10 to $14. Modelled as one connected strip it is 26 grams and $3.12, with channels sized to your actual cables instead of the three widths the pack happens to include.
3. Drawer dividers and cabinet organizers
Store dividers come in fixed lengths that never match a real drawer. A set measured to yours is about 95 grams, $11.40, against $20 to $30 for a kit that fits approximately.
4. Vacuum and shop-vac hose adapters

5. Wall hooks and headphone hangers
Eighteen grams, $2.16, against $12 to $18 for a two-pack designed for someone else's shelf. A printed hook is sized to the exact thickness of your desk edge, which is the difference between gripping and sliding off.
6. Phone, tablet and laptop stands
A 45-gram stand costs $5.40 against $15 to $25 in a store. Set the angle to your own desk height and put the cable pass-through where your charger actually sits.
7. Battery and tool-bit trays
Loose cells and bits rolling around a drawer are a small daily tax. A tray with labelled slots is roughly 60 grams, $7.20, against $14 to $20 for a generic organizer sized for someone else's bit set.
8. Parts for things nobody makes parts for
Blind wands, curtain-rod end brackets, dishwasher rack clips, a snapped hinge on a cabinet door. These are nine-gram parts that cost barely more than our $1.00 per-part minimum, and the alternative is usually replacing the whole fixture.
9. Outdoor fittings
Hose brackets, sprinkler stakes and planter feet: 30 grams of PETG is $3.60. Do not use PLA outdoors in a Texas summer — it softens above 60°C, and a sunny fence line gets there. PETG or ASA instead.
10. Jigs, shims and spacers
The highest-value category has no retail price at all: a drilling jig for a repeated hole pattern, a spacer that makes two mismatched parts line up. Fifteen grams, $1.80, and it exists in days instead of never.
Batch your parts, or the minimums eat the savings
Two rules shape a cheap order. The $1.00 minimum is per part: eight separate four-gram clips are eight dollar parts, while the same clips modelled as one connected strip are 32 grams and $3.84. And shipping is $7 flat, free over $50, so one order carrying the knob, the hooks and the jig beats three orders a month apart.

For small, specific, hard-to-find plastic parts, consistently. For commodity goods made by the million — zip ties, plain storage bins — no. If a part is light, particular to your situation, or sold as a branded replacement, printing wins. If it is heavy, generic and stocked everywhere, buy it.
What is the cheapest thing to 3D print?
Anything under about eight grams, because it lands on the $1.00 per-part minimum: a cable clip, a shim, a small bracket. Since that minimum is charged per part, the cheapest orders combine several small pieces into one model, or at least into one order.
